Every Kayastha family has its own way of staying connected. Some depend on a WhatsApp group, some on an uncle who knows everybody, and some only meet at weddings and Chitragupta Puja. Kayastha Setu brings all of this together in one simple app. It is a family app built by the samaj, for the samaj, and this article explains what it tries to do and why the community is at its centre.
Why a Community App for Kayastha Families?
Our families are spread across India. A son works in Bengaluru, a daughter studies in Pune, and the grandparents still live in the home town. Over time, contacts get lost, names of great-grandparents are forgotten, and it becomes hard to know who lives nearby or whom to call when help is needed.
Kayastha Setu exists to keep these threads strong. The word setu means bridge, and that is exactly the idea: a bridge between families, between generations and between the samaj and its organisations.
The Mission in Simple Words
The mission of Kayastha Setu can be understood in four simple parts:
- Connect families – help members find and reach each other with trust.
- Preserve our roots – keep our family history, traditions and the story of Bhagwan Shri Chitragupta ji alive for children.
- Support each other – in jobs, business, housing, emergencies and sad moments.
- Celebrate together – birthdays, achievements, festivals and good mornings.
Connecting Families with Trust
Trust is the base of everything in the app. Every member signs up with a mobile number and OTP, and each new login also asks for a 4-digit Setu PIN. The account works on one device at a time, so if someone logs in on a new phone, the old phone is logged out and shown where the new login happened.
The Family Directory lets you search Kayastha families by name, city, occupation or sub-community. Members can pick their up-jaati, such as Srivastava, Mathur, Saxena, Bhatnagar, Nigam, Asthana, Kulshrestha and more. The Samaj ki Sabhayein section lists Mahasabhas and sabhas from national to city level, with office bearers you can call, WhatsApp or email.
If you have moved to a new city, Nearby Members shows how many members live within 5, 10, 25 or 50 km of you. Your exact location is never stored or shown, and you can choose ghost mode or switch it off.
Preserving Our Roots and Traditions
Much of our heritage lives only in the memories of elders. Kayastha Setu gives the family a place to write it down.
- Family Tree – build your vansh vriksh with photos and dates, and link relatives who are already members.
- Kayastha Gyan – simple chapters on Shri Chitragupta ji, the 12 vansh and Kalam-Dawat puja.
- Recipes & Parampara – family recipes, rituals, stories and lok geet shared by members.
- Kalam Dawaat – a writers’ corner for kavita, shayari, ghazal and kahani, because ours has always been a samaj of the pen.
Standing with Each Other
A community is truly tested in difficult times. The app has several features for this:
- Blood Donors – find donors by blood group and city, and post urgent requests.
- SOS Emergency – hold the button for 3 seconds and up to 5 contacts get an SMS with your live location.
- Shok Sandesh – share one dignified condolence notice with uthavani, terahvi or prarthana sabha details.
- Kayastha Jobs, Marketplace, Doctor, Vakil & Professionals and Room, Flat & PG – practical help from people of our own samaj.
Celebrating Together
Happy moments matter too. The Community Timeline is a friendly feed where verified members share achievements and wishes. Birthdays reminds you every morning whose special day it is. Shubh Sandesh makes good morning cards with your own photo and name. Every Sunday evening, the whole samaj can play Gyan Mahasangram, a live quiz read aloud in Hindi and English.
A Safe and Respectful Space
A family app must feel safe for elders, women and children. Kayastha Setu takes this seriously:
- Duplicate and fake accounts are caught by photo matching.
- Foul language is filtered on the timeline, and every post can be reported.
- Photos are checked for unsafe content.
- In-app calls hide mobile numbers, and members can block calls.
- Matrimony profiles and business listings are reviewed before they go live.
Free for Most Things
Most of the app is free, including Panchang, SOS, Blood Donors, Timeline, Live Quiz, Kalam Dawaat, Gita Saar, Digital Mala, Shubh Sandesh, Recipes, Kids Zone, job search and Marketplace browsing. Premium costs ₹149 per month (GST included) and unlocks the full Family Directory, Matrimony, Astro AI and posting jobs, along with the blue Verified badge. Free members can see 3 full directory contacts per day.
Volunteers who serve the samaj can apply through the Volunteers & Seva section. Once approved, they get a volunteer badge and free Premium.
Made for Every Generation
The app works in Hindi, English, Marathi and Bengali, and you can change the language any time. For those who do not like menus, Kaya, the voice and text assistant on the home screen, can answer questions and open the right section. Elders can enjoy Live Aarti and bhajans with lyrics, while children play safe, ad-free games in Kids Zone.
Kayastha Setu is not just an app; it is an effort to keep our families close, our traditions alive and our samaj strong. Download it, invite your parents and cousins, and become part of this bridge. We look forward to welcoming your family.
