Kayastha Setu is a family app built by the samaj, for the samaj. When grandparents, parents and grandchildren all use the same app, it helps to think a little about how we appear and behave there. Your profile, your photos and your posts are how the community gets to know you. This guide is for both elders and youth, with simple steps and gentle advice.
Start with the right language
The whole app works in Hindi, English, Marathi and Bengali. You choose the language on first launch, and you can change it any time. If Nani is more comfortable in Hindi and her grandson prefers English, each can use the app in their own language on their own phone. For elders, this one choice often makes the biggest difference.
Your profile photo
Your photo appears on your profile and next to your posts and comments. It helps relatives recognise you, and it builds trust. A few tips:
- Use a clear, recent photo of your face, in good light.
- Avoid group photos, as people will not know which one is you.
- Keep it simple and respectful. Remember that elders and children see it too.
- Use only your own photo. The app uses photo matching to catch duplicate and fake accounts, and photos are checked for unsafe content.
Your profile details and bio
In the Family Directory, a profile can show your photo, father's name, city, occupation, blood group and more. A complete profile helps the right people find you, whether it is an old classmate, a relative in a new city, or someone looking for a professional.
When you write about yourself, keep it short and warm. Mention your city, your work and perhaps your interests. Members keep their own profiles up to date, and changes are reviewed before they go live, so the directory stays accurate.
Your up-jaati
You can pick your up-jaati, such as Srivastava, Mathur, Saxena, Bhatnagar, Nigam, Ambashtha, Asthana, Gaur, Karna, Kulshrestha and others. It shows as verified when your father's profile matches, when other members vouch for it, or when the team verifies it. This is one more reason for families to join together.
Privacy and safety settings to know
Being visible to the samaj does not mean giving up privacy. Here is what helps you stay in control:
| What | How it protects you |
|---|---|
| Mobile OTP and Setu PIN | Login uses OTP, and every new login also asks your 4-digit Setu PIN |
| One device at a time | Logging in on a new phone logs the old phone out, and the old phone shows where the new login happened |
| In-app calls | Mobile numbers stay hidden during in-app calls |
| Block calls | You can block calls from anyone you do not wish to hear from |
| Nearby Members | Choose Show me, Ghost mode or Off; your exact location is never stored or shown |
| Family Tree | Visible only inside the app, never on the open web |
Golden rule: never share your OTP or Setu PIN with anyone, even someone who says they are helping you.
Respectful posting on the Community Timeline
The Community Timeline is where the samaj celebrates together: board results, a new shop, a beautiful Chitragupta Puja in the colony. Because only verified members can post, the feed stays warm. Let us all keep it that way.
- Celebrate, do not compare. Share joys, and cheer others with likes and comments.
- Ask before posting others. Before you post a photo of a relative, especially a child, ask the family.
- Choose kind words. Foul language is filtered, but kindness is our own choice.
- Keep personal matters personal. Family disagreements belong at home, not on a public feed.
- Use the right section. Poems go well in Kalam Dawaat, and condolence notices belong in Shok Sandesh.
- Report, do not argue. If something does not belong, use the report option. Inappropriate posts are removed quickly.
For youth: helping elders with the app
Many elders want to stay connected but feel nervous with new apps. A little patience from the young can open a whole new world for them.
- Set it up together. Help them log in with their own mobile number and set a Setu PIN they will remember. Let them type it themselves.
- Choose their language. Set Hindi, Marathi or Bengali if they prefer.
- Show two or three features first. Live Aarti, Daily Panchang and Shubh Sandesh are usually loved.
- Introduce Kaya. Elders can simply speak to Kaya in Hindi or English instead of searching menus.
- Set up SOS. Add emergency contacts and fill the medical card in SOS Emergency.
- Explain safety gently. Teach them never to share OTP or PIN, and how to report or block.
For elders: guiding the youth
Elders have something no app can give: experience. Share family stories in Recipes & Parampara, help children fill the family tree, and gently remind young members that what we post reflects our family's sanskar.
A presence the family can be proud of
A clear photo, an honest profile, sensible privacy and kind words are all it takes. When elders and youth learn from each other, Kayastha Setu feels like one big, well-mannered family gathering. See you on the timeline, with best wishes from the Kayastha Setu Team.
