Best Practices for Connecting with Kayastha Community Sellers in the Marketplace

Buying from our own people has always been part of samaj life. The sweet shop run by a known family, the tailor your mother trusts, the cousin who started a small catering business. The Marketplace on Kayastha Setu brings this habit onto your phone. Kayastha-owned shops, makers and service providers are listed in one place, with a simple Products | Services switch.

Whether you are buying or selling, a few good practices make every deal smooth and pleasant. Here is a simple guide for both sides.

How the Marketplace Works

  1. Open Marketplace and pick Products or Services.
  2. Browse categories or search for what you need.
  3. Order or enquire directly with the seller on WhatsApp.
  4. Have a business? Tap Sell / List to add yours.

Browsing the Marketplace is free. Businesses are reviewed before they go live, and Premium sellers get the Verified badge and better visibility.

Tips for Buyers

Read the listing fully

Before you message, look at the photos, the price, the category and the business details such as address and years in business. Many questions get answered right there.

Send a clear first message on WhatsApp

A good first message saves time for both of you. For example:

"Namaste ji, I saw your listing on Kayastha Setu. I would like 2 kg of the besan laddoo. Delivery to Goregaon East possible? Please share the total with delivery charges."

Mention the product name, quantity, your area and when you need it. Please avoid sending ten separate one-word messages.

Respect business hours

Many sellers are home-based makers who also manage a family. Avoid calling or messaging late at night unless they have said it is fine. If they do not reply immediately, give them some time.

Confirm everything before you pay

Confirm the final price, delivery charges, delivery date and return or exchange terms in writing on WhatsApp. This simple step avoids most misunderstandings.

UPI Safety for Everyone

Most payments happen on UPI. It is quick and convenient, but please follow these basics:

  • You never need to enter your UPI PIN to receive money. If someone sends you a "collect request" saying it is a refund or payment, read it carefully. Entering your PIN means money goes out, not in.
  • Check the name that appears on the UPI screen before paying. It should match the seller or their business.
  • For a first order, start small or ask whether part payment is possible.
  • Keep the payment screenshot and share it with the seller on WhatsApp.
  • Never share your OTP or Setu PIN with anyone, buyer or seller.

Tips for Sellers

Use clear, honest photos

Take photos in daylight, near a window, against a plain background. Show the real product, from more than one angle if possible. Do not use photos that make the item look very different from what the buyer will receive.

Mention clear prices

"Price on request" makes many buyers hesitate. Write the price, the unit (per piece, per kg, per hour) and whether delivery is extra. If prices change often, write a starting price.

Fill in your business details fully

Add your brand logo, address, category and years in business. A complete listing builds trust. Families like to know who they are buying from.

Reply politely and on time

A quick "Thank you ji, I will check and reply by evening" keeps the buyer happy, even if you need time to answer properly.

Confirm the order in writing

Once the buyer is ready, send a short summary on WhatsApp: items, quantity, total amount, payment method and expected delivery date. Ask them to reply "OK". This protects both of you.

Confirming Delivery

The deal is complete only when the product reaches safely.

  • Sellers: Share a photo of the packed parcel or the courier tracking details.
  • Buyers: Check the item when it arrives and send a quick message: "Received, thank you." If something is wrong, share a photo and explain calmly.
  • Both: Try to solve small issues with patience. Most problems are honest mistakes, not bad intentions.

Give Honest, Kind Feedback

Feedback helps a community business grow. If you liked the product, tell the seller, and tell your friends and family. If something could be better, say it politely and specifically, for example "The packing could be stronger for sweets." Honest words, said kindly, help sellers improve and help other buyers decide.
